Daniella Dooling has used fingernails and eyelashes in her sculptures. I love the use of temporary tattoos on the nails in this detail of her “Polyunguia Dress for the Psychotropic Itch” from 1997. Check out more of her work here: http://danielladooling.com/sculpture/finger_eyes/fe-gallery2.html

Another gorgeous sculpture by husband-wife team Colin & Sas Christian - via @arrestedmotion - I’ve posted their work here before. Their NY show at Opera Gallery opens in March.
The pattern on this is so Tlingit, Northwestern Native American, but the form is clearly that of Nefertiti, the most beautiful queen of Egypt. Interesting.

Before BLAXIDERMY, I built a little electronic toilet & sink drum kit called “Bathroom Beats” - when you sat on the toilet, you used drumsticks to play bathroom sound-effect hip hop loops. I would LOVE to visit this toilet waterfall by artist Shu Yong in China’s Guandong Province. I find his work massively entertaining.

Motohiko Odani “Erectro” - I saw this one at Mori Art Museum in Tokyo last week and LOVED it… wondered why I hadn’t heard of this artist before, only to realize that I knew this piece from a show at Mass MoCA in 2005. Home, sweet, Williamstown. I should have known! Anyway, looove this taxidermy piece.
Odani has some strong pieces in his current Tokyo show, The Phantom Limb, including this one, his photographs, and his bone-like sculptures, however the room filled with his “hollow” is redundant and I wondered if some editing would have made for a stronger show…. Anyway, nice to be familiar with this Japanese artist again. I will post some more images soon. Also, fell in love with the planned outdoor spaces of Roppongi Hills, the site of the museum…

Shinji Konishi’s “Animal Wigs” - His process sounds like mine: “Konishi’s wigs are completed in a marathon of chemical huffing and sleep deprivation.”
Meticulously covering plastic casts of animals with human hair, the LA-based Japanese artist created detailed animal wigs… as seen on GaGa in the “Bad Romance” video. Take that, Hair Battle Spectacular!

Sascha Nordmeyer’s “Communication Prosthesis” is fabulous! I feel like this would really help with my non-verbal communication on those cubicle-bound days. FIX YA FACE!!! … I knew I had a thing for prostheses for a reason- I just hadn’t found the right one for me!

“Trophy Wife” BLAXIDERMY at its finest. Stephanie Seymour and Peter Brant have super-luscious drama, allegedly now reconciled. You would too if a hunting trophy bust of you was hanging in your living room… or if you were worth $500+ Milli with no pre-nup.
Who: Federic Fekkai… Doing: The hair of uber drama socialite Stephanie Seymour’s bust…Art By: Maurizio Cattelan…
Why: it’s for sale… Where: Philips, de Pury… Philipe Ségalot-run auction

Thanks to Eve for putting me on to Kenya Robinson! Awesome… Reminds me of Brian Jungen’s masks, with hair products. Totally BLAXIDERMY. Totally Inspirational. <3 it.
Kenya Robinson’s blog - I might have to go see her performance in DUMBO tomorrow.
She’s been taking hair art to that next level for a minute now: article on binge online

Emily Wardill “Gamekeepers without Game” film still…
Showing beginning Oct 22nd at MIT List Visual Arts Center. Opening Oct 21st. Based on this image alone, I must go see it, but here’s a description from e-flux.com:

The film translates the 17th century play by Calderón de la Barca into contemporary London; it tells the story of a girl put up for adoption by her family at a young age. When the girl is a teenager her father engineers a way for her to return to the family home, but her destructive response to the objects and people within leads to her being forcibly removed and having to strategise her way back into housing. Set to a drumming soundtrack which highlights the spatial construction of the narrative, the film has a stark yet glossy aesthetic – the characters and objects are presented as if they are airline food, with no person or object touching another.

I love that Nick Cave’s soundsuits are in this year’s September Issue of Vogue. Now more people in America will share my love affair… BLAXIDERMY, for sure.

This Yinka Shonibare x Fabric Workshop + Museum piece “Space Walk” COMPLETELY changed how I thought of art-making when I saw it at Mass MoCA in the Fall of 2006 (beginning of my senior year of college). I revisited the work several times that year, and I’m pretty sure that I would not have approached textiles without having seen it!
Now, it also gives me flashbacks to performing Gil Scott Heron’s “Whitey on the Moon” in my high school English class.
So excited that I have some friends at work who will help me with my repeat patterns! Wooo! Let’s print, baby!
